Our Adoption Process
Thank you for your interest in adopting from True Love Canine Rescue,
and more importantly, thank you for you interest in one of our grateful
companions.
It is stressful for a dog to be transferred from home to home
which is why we take the adoption process very seriously and are
very thorough throughout the entire adoption process. Not only do we
want to make sure that our dogs will be comfortable in your home, we
want to make sure that each dog is placed with the perfect family.
This will ensure that both you and your new dog will enjoy a long
and happy life together.
True Love Canine Rescue cannot adopt dogs to homes any further
than 2 hours from Athens, GA. We also cannot place a dog in a home
with an unaltered dog - please spay and neuter your pets! We also
require that all dogs be kept as inside pets.
Our adoption fee is $175. All dogs adopted from TLC Rescue:
- Have been tested for heartworms
- Are up-to-date on all vaccinations and medications
- Have been treated with monthly Heartworm and Flea/Tick
preventative
- Have been micro-chipped to ensure a safe return should they
ever be lost or stolen
- Have been spayed or neutered
Applying:
We have streamlined the adoption process into 3 easy steps.
- Fill out our
adoption questionnaire. Once we have received
your completed questionnaire, a TLC volunteer will contact you
within 48 hours. At that time we will be able to discuss the
adoption process and answer any questions you may have about the
dog of interest.
Don't worry if you are unsure about which dog might be the best
fit, go ahead and fill out the adoption questionnaire and we
will get back with you with suggestions based on your
preferences and our knowledge of the dogs.
- We will contact your personal references and if any of our
volunteers have any major concerns about adopting a dog to you,
based on conversations with your personal references, your
application may be denied at this point.
After reviewing your adoption questionnaire, we will contact
you by phone or email to schedule a home visit. During the
visit, we will introduce you to the dog and discuss where the
dog will stay while at your home. We will also see how he or she
will interact with the other animals in your home. If our home
visit volunteers have any major concerns about your home
environment, or if you refuse a home visit, your application
will be denied at this point in the process.
- If steps 1 and 2 meet TLC's guidelines, we will fill out an
adoption agreement. At this point, the dog will begin its two
week trial period in your home.
The two week trial period is for all potential adopters to give
you time to decide if the dog is right for you and your family.
Within this two week period you may return the dog and we will
refund your adoption fee. After the two week trial, we will
accept the dog back, however no refund will be given.
Please keep in mind that we are here for you and your dog
throughout the adoption process and after. We will
offer suggestions to concerns you may have and are glad to help in
any way that we can.
Finally, don't lose contact! We want to stay in touch and be
updated on the dog. Our foster families love to receive photos and
stay updated on their dogs after they have been adopted.
"We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare,
and love we can spare. And in return they give us their all. It's
the best deal man has ever made." - M.
